Oblivion Remastered drops unexpectedly, breaks into livestreaming charts

Oblivion Remastered drops unexpectedly, breaks into livestreaming charts

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has finally received a long-awaited remaster. It even dropped as a surprise, just one day after being announced. The unexpected launch generated a wave of excitement from both players and streamers. In under 48 hours, the game amassed over 8 million Hours Watched across livestreaming platforms, landing just shy of the global top 10 most-watched categories.

As it turns out, development on the remaster — a joint effort between Virtuos and Bethesda Game Studios — had been underway since as far back as 2021. The first rumors didn’t surface until the fall of 2023, when a reference to an “Oblivion Remaster” appeared in documents related to the Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft case. Then, in early April 2025, promotional images were spotted on Virtuos’ website, signaling that the release was imminent. Bethesda officially announced the game on April 21, and just a day later, Oblivion Remastered was both revealed and made available for purchase.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made its debut on April 22, quietly dropping on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S without the usual marketing buildup. Within just two hours, the game shattered expectations on Steam, surpassing 100,000 concurrent players, a clear sign that both long-time Elder Scrolls veterans and curious newcomers were eager to dive back into Tamriel. On consoles, the remaster quickly climbed the ranks, securing a spot in the PlayStation Store’s top 10 most-downloaded games in the US, and making a strong showing as a major day-one title on Xbox Game Pass.

Content creators were just as fired up. On launch day alone, dozens of top-tier streamers from around the globe jumped into the remaster, eager to explore the revamped world of Oblivion with their audiences. The collective hype behind the surprise launch was undeniable: in less than two full days, the game became one of the most talked-about and streamed titles across the industry.

As mentioned earlier, in under 48 hours since launch, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered racked up over 8 million Hours Watched across all major livestreaming platforms. Unsurprisingly, the largest share came from Twitch, the go-to destination for gaming content. A significant chunk also came from SteamTV, thanks to an autoplay livestream hosted directly on the game’s Steam page by Bethesda.

The game is also performing solidly on YouTube Gaming and has even caught the attention of several creators on emerging platforms like Kick and Trovo, a clear sign that the remaster is making waves across the broader streaming landscape.

Canadian streamer Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek currently leads the livestreaming charts, racking up over 337,000 Hours Watched in just over 15 hours on air, an obvious sign of how deeply the remaster pulled him in. What stands out even more is the global spread of creators jumping in: from Japan and Russia to Australia and Spain, streamers across the world are diving back into the classic. It’s a powerful reminder of just how legendary this 19-year-old game still is.

While no single streamer is putting up standout individual numbers, what we’re seeing is a collective effort, and the game’s impressive viewership is very much a shared achievement among creators. What will be particularly interesting to watch is how this surprise-release momentum will hold up in the long run. Will streamers keep up this level of activity through the end of the week, or will the hype start to taper off?
